Product Engineering

We build things we have to maintain.

Running our own products changes the decisions we make on yours. Shortcuts that look efficient in month one are expensive in month nine, and we have paid for enough of them to recognise them early.

01Detail

Why this matters to you

An agency that only does client work optimises for delivery. It hands over at launch and never sees the consequences of the decisions it made. Nothing about that arrangement rewards durability.

We operate our own products, which means we live with our own architecture choices, our own missing indexes and our own logging gaps. That experience is what you are actually hiring.

What we do at this level

Taking a product from an idea to something people pay for: scoping the first version down to what can genuinely ship, building it, putting it in front of real users, and rebuilding what turned out to be wrong.

We also work with founders who have an existing product and need engineering capacity that thinks about the product, not just the ticket.

The first version is smaller than you think

The most valuable thing we do early is argue for cutting scope. A first release that does one thing well teaches you more than a broad one that launches three months later.

We will push back on features. Not to reduce the work, but because the feedback from something real is worth more than the feature you would have guessed at.

03Common questions

Before you ask.

Do you take equity instead of fees?

Generally no. We are a small studio and we need predictable revenue to keep the lights on. For the right product we will discuss a reduced rate with some upside, but cash-flow reality means it cannot be the whole arrangement.

Can you work alongside our existing developers?

Yes, and it often works well. We are used to picking up an existing codebase and matching its conventions rather than rewriting things to our preference.

What do you need from us to start?

A clear description of the problem and access to someone who understands it deeply. You do not need a specification or wireframes — producing those is part of the work, and the ones written before a conversation usually get discarded anyway.

What happens after launch?

We stay on for a defined support period on every project, and most clients continue with an ongoing arrangement for changes and monitoring. If you would rather take it in-house, we will make the handover a real one.
